about

I want to speak “Let Kids Live” as a mantra into the world. I think it’s really hard, especially living as a Black person in the U.S., in a space where so many people are quite literally not given the opportunity to grow up. And while the lives of many are taken far too young, I think the living experience of being able to experience childhood is taken away from so many young people who are forced to “grow up” much earlier than everyone else.

Ironically, when it comes to the way human rights are consistently denied to Black & Brown & Working Class folks, it can often feel like we are given the same amount (or less) of autonomy (freedom+independence) that society allows our children & young people.

And so I definitely been feeling like freeing our minds, freeing the young people in our lives, and freeing ourselves in allowing ourselves to be “kids” are ways of allowing ourselves to engage with the trauma we hold. They can allow us to reimagine what living is and what*how freedom can be. I believe we are trained out of this to facilitate our expression. I believe we often train ourselves out of it to survive in a world that demands we do. And I believe in the freedom I feel when I engage in ~Let Kids Live~. So that’s what this project is finna be all about. And I hope it can speak for itself, as well.

Shoutout Alexis R. for your contribution to this project and to my life. Thank you for being a light, consistently. Thank you for existing. Thank you for living and being.

Spencer Tate thank you for your contribution to this project-for helping me come up with the sound I would eventually conclude this project with. And for being dope and for being!

Huge shoutout to the support I have received for LKL-both from people who have known about the project and its process and from those who have been supporters of my life and the lives of those around them. I am inspired by y’all all the time. And y’all let me be a “kid” a lot. So thanks forreal 🤓.
